THE SNAIL PROJECT!

My daughter Isabel's pre-school class was called the Leaping Lizards and their teacher Alicia Sheridan had them deep in the study of snails in the spring of 2002. She invited me to devise a complementary direct animation film project to go with the snail study and so The Snail Project! was born.

The kids were first filmed with their snails as they prepared for the end-of-the-year snail play. Next we brought in the cameraless tools and materials and they dove right in, not fully aware of where they were heading. I put the pieces together on the optical printer and illustrator J. Otto Siebold contributed graphics and snail animations.
