ELEGY FOR SEVEN FALLING OBJECTS

2003, 4 min, 16mm film-on-digital with sound

The first laptop junkie film, with source material (as usual) coming from 16mm, but for the first time I've utilized a download here and there. More hand-processed film than ever, due to my time with Al Alvarez in the Overdub Club. This film incorporates super-8 film run through an Estes Cineroc launched over the Black Rock Desert and blown up to 16mm. Special thanks to Yonder, Cultural Workers, Orbit and the rest.

Seven Fallen Objects is a feature film that derives its title from this SFJ short and is produced by Blue Rain Films. It incorporates commissioned short films as the reveries of the main character, a dying poet. The poems are based on world events of 2003 and Elegy is an attempt to reflect on the crew of the space shuttle Columbia, lost on re-entry.

The text is a poem (by Greg Boyd) based on a quote (by Bob Schieffer) who refers to a quote (by Harry Truman) that refers to the death (of Franklin Roosevelt) as compared to the myth (of Icarus). The image of the crew used in the film was recovered on the ground in Texas as unprocessed film - a fallen feather.
