The Overdub Club is a collaborative group involving filmmaker/projectionists and musician/composers. Fellow filmmakers Thad Povey and Alfonso Alvarez have worked together since the late 1980's and, although we utilize digital and video methods, the work is primarily done with traditional filmmaking tools and projection. Sonics are orchestrated by long-time collaborator Lucio Menegon.

2009, 16 min, high-definition video
Nightsoil is a 16 minute single channel video that was originally developed as a 16mm multi-projector piece accompanied by live music. In this form, it premiered in December 2002 at Bay Area Now 3, the multi-disciplinary art exhibition held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. A presentation at the Sundance Film Festival in 2003 was followed by numerous screenings around the Bay Area. The high-definition video version with a new soundtrack was completed in August of 2009. The original score is by Lucio Menegon and includes the musical contributions of Suki O'Kane, John Hanes, Jenya Chernoff, Rebecca Seeman, Jonathan Segel, and Laurie Amat.
The piece is a layered and evocative display of humanity's ability to create both beauty and destruction, whose title echoes the archeologist investigating abandoned human latrines. Coming at a dramatic time in America's history and created in the spirit of this zeitgeist, Nightsoil calls out with an appeal to "think what you're doing" before choosing violence as a solution to humanity's problems.
