Escape Velocity

Another ship-in-a-bottle piece, Escape Velocity is composed of a suspended projector apparatus and two ceiling mounted projectors illuminating the floor. The image in the bottle shows the various stages of a rocketship lifting off and achieving the speed necessary to escape Earth's gravity. On the floor are images that one might see while on-board the rocket looking back at Earth, including a boy lying on the grass who's possibly imagining the whole thing.

The clip is from the art benefit Pretty Gritty in San Francisco, 2003. The astronaut is played by the fearless Lolo Kismeyer.
